Future Interfaces Forum

The Future Interfaces Forum at Aalto University brings leading builders, researchers, and entrepreneurs to share how they've built groundbreaking interfaces, and where the field goes next. From ultra‑thin XR‑glasses displays and next‑generation heads‑up displays to AI operating stacks and agentic systems, our speakers share learned lessons, constraints, and opportunities that lie in tomorrow's technology. Each talk includes a presentation by the speaker and an open Q&A session. Come see the cutting edge technology, get ideas for your projects and portfolio, and meet people shaping the next wave!

The talks are open to everyone and are in the Design Factory / Startup Sauna (Puumiehenkuja 5, Espoo)

Autumn 2025 Speaking Events
Antti Sunnari

Antti Sunnari

Dispelix - Co-founder & CEO

Dispelix pioneers ultra-thin transparent waveguide displays that seamlessly merge real and virtual worlds. Antti Sunnari, co-founder and CEO, leads an expert nanophotonics team that has secured global recognition, with over 200 patents and partnerships with major players, and is at the forefront of redefining AR display form, function, and scale.

In this talk, Antti will explore how scalable, high-performance waveguides are laying the foundation for smart glasses to emerge as the next major computing platform, transforming how we work, communicate, and interact with digital information.

Tatu Heikkilä

Tatu Heikkilä

Cadentia - Co-founder & CEO

The Companion Era: How AI Rewrites Brand-Consumer Trust

Cadentia builds “Brand Companions” — AI-powered channels that let consumer brands hold direct, trusted, one-to-one conversations at scale, not just push messages. Their toolkit brings a company's real content, rules, and data into each dialog so updates are accurate, on-brand, and personal.

Tatu Heikkilä (Co-founder & CEO) will trace how digital consumer experiences evolved over the past 25 years, and why agentic AI changes the relationship from campaigns and funnels to ongoing, value-adding companionship. He'll discuss what this means for brand trust, loyalty, and measurable outcomes.

25.09. 15:30-16:30, Aalto Startup Sauna

Tero Sarkkinen

Tero Sarkkinen

Basemark - Founder & CEO

Basemark builds Rocksolid AR—easy-to-use tools that let carmakers place helpful, real-time guidance on windshields and screens, and even on smart glasses.

CEO Tero Sarkkinen will show what this looks like in practice—from AR navigation already on the road to what's next when cars and glasses share the same “live” view of the world.

He'll also talk candidly about building a user-interface platform for automakers: fitting into existing vehicle stacks, working with partners, and earning the trust to operate a critical component the customer doesn't own.

Olof Schybergson

Olof Schybergson

Accenture Song (Global) - Chief Design and Product Officer

Off-Screen Futures: Service Design with AI

Accenture Song's Chief Design & Product Officer, Olof Schybergson, has spent two decades moving service design into the corporate mainstream—co-founding Fjord in 2001, scaling it globally, and bringing it into Accenture where design became a core lever for growth.

In this talk, he examines what that shift changed inside large organizations. How services are conceived, governed, and measured, and what AI now adds: faster research and personalization, new off-screen, real-world experiences, and redesigned operating models.

20.11. 16:00-18:00, Aalto Startup Sauna

Markku Mäkeläinen & Kristian Luoma

Markku Mäkeläinen & Kristian Luoma

In Parallel - Founders, CEO (Markku) and Strategy & Partnerships (Kristian)

From Plans to Progress, Faster

In Parallel makes it easier to turn big goals (OKRs) into real progress in the tools people already use. Their AI “Pulse” checks in with teams, gathers quick updates, and spots blockers—so work moves forward instead of getting stuck in status meetings.

Co-founders Markku Mäkeläinen and Kristian Luoma will show what this looks like day-to-day, and share a simple loop—Goals → Problems → Solutions—for keeping strategy and execution aligned. They draw on years of building products and innovation programs to make the lessons concrete.
